Brand new for the 2011 model year, the Infiniti M37 has set its eye straight on the big guns of the midsize luxury sedan segment. Though performance and handling were not on their priority list, two things they made sure this sedan offers in tons are comfort and reliability, the latter of which we must agree, is true. Though it might be a reflection of the small sales number in a wider outlook, 1 recall, and 35 customer complaints makes it not even remotely a shoddy performer in the reliability department, especially considering the fact that it comes in brand new for this year and also being a characteristic this segment is not known to embrace in general. So is that enough credit for this $47,050 suited-up Nissan to adorn your garage with the next purchase in place of popular names like the Lincoln MKS, Hyundai Genesis, and even popular German options like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes Benz E Class? Well. Let’s find out.

2011 Infiniti M37 User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Complaints

  • Transmission Problems- Transmission issues are something that has been bothering several 2011 Infiniti M37 owners. Though the unit is mechanically as robust as it gets for the segment, several software glitches have been plaguing this same unit. Delayed kick down, unintentional upshifts, jerky shifts, and skipping gears have been the most reported complaints. A transmission update (ITB12-021) has been rolled out by the automaker which reportedly does fix most of the jerks that have been complained about on these units. However, the kick downs are still reported to be a bit delayed and the sedan does occasionally hunt for the right gear on quick throttle inputs.

 Electric System complaints

  • Battery drain issues- Premature battery drain has been a common issue on the 2011 Infiniti M37. Users have reported the battery losing complete juice when the car is left untouched for about 48 hours. Brand new batteries also showcase the same issues as reports suggest. Though Infiniti has TSBs released on battery drain issues, the 2011 Infiniti M37 does not seem to be included. The media unit is assumed to be the cause of the parasitic draw based on several user reports.

Structural Complaints

  • Door and dashboard crack- Users have reported the excessive crack formation in the leather that has been used on the dashboard and the door panels. Although dealers were approached with this issue, they could not offer any support as the manufacturer has not declared these specific parts are warranty replacements. Parking the vehicle in the sun for long durations has been reported to be the cause of this issue.

Safety Complaints

  • Airbags Issues- The occupant classification system senor on the 2011 Infiniti M37 tend to malfunction in some batches of this sedan. This results in the intermittent blinking of the passenger airbag warning despite the seat being occupied. Most cases would require a sensor replacement and the fix usually is not covered under warranty.

The fuel pressure sensor may leak

The fuel pressure sensors may not have been tightened to the correct specification. As a result, the fuel pressure sensor may loosen due to heat and vibration causing fuel to leak, and increasing the risk of a fire.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pressure sensors, as necessary, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 2, 2012.

Should you buy a used 2011 Infiniti M37?

The Infiniti M37 is a great option for those looking for a cozy cruiser with predominantly more priority for luxury and effortlessness than outright performance or driving dynamics. Though it falls back of the completion when it comes to brute, it more than makes up for it with its class-leading reliability, which even authorized entities like JD Power rate it great for. With little or few known problems, the 2011 Infiniti M37 does set the dependability game straight beating most of its competitors rather easily. So if you ask us whether this midsize luxury sedan is a good choice or not, we would most probably vote for the latter. Also, the relatively low annual ownership costs ($630/year) help it get more brownie points here.
