Overview

The 2024 BMW 4 Series gets tech upgrades this year with 2 new digital displays running the latest iDrive 8 system. The infotainment system now measures a massive 14.9-inch and there is also a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster on offer. The center console also sees a new toggle switch replacing the lever-style shifter from last year. Check out the video below by "Bros FOURR Speed" for a closer real-world look at the BMW 4-Series.

Apart from the 4 Series Coupe, BMW also offers a 4-door 2024 4-Series Gran Coupe while performance mongers would thoroughly enjoy the sporty BMW M4. Depending on the trim, the all-new 4 Series offers a range of powerful engines, ranging from twin-turbocharged Inline-4 to V6. The 2024 BMW 4 Series price starts from $49,900 excluding the $995 destination fee, which translates to a price hike of $2500 over the previous model year.

As standard, the 4-Series is powered by a 2L turbo-4 engine which produces 255 hp and can do a 0-60 MPH run in just 5.5 seconds. For even more performance, enthusiasts can opt for the 2024 BMW M440i, but it costs a whopping $12,000 more than the base 4 Series. At this price point, the 2024 4 Series Coupe competes against the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe, the 2023 Lexus RC 300, and the 2024 Audi A5.

Engine and Performance
9.9/10

Powered by the 2L twin-turbocharged B48 Inline-4 under the hood, the 2024 BMW 4 Series makes 255 hp and 294 lb-ft of torque to propel the rear wheels. An 8-speed automatic transmission is there, for lag-free performance that works seamlessly with the Inline-4. Coming with a top speed of 149 mph, the all-new 4 Series can clock 60 in just 5.6 seconds. However, the 4 Series also offers a higher output coupe, called the M440i, which drastically lowers the time to straight 4.6 seconds, thanks to the turbocharged 3L V6, making 382 hp @ 5800 rpm, and 369 lb-ft. Multiple elements have been incorporated to enhance the core performance, such as adaptive dampers, tuned suspension, and precise steering. With all these together, the '24 4 Series takes only 14.1 seconds to complete the quarter-mile lap, while with the M440i, it's just 12.3 seconds.

While with the twin-turbo Inline-4, the '24 BMW 4 Series takes 5.6 seconds to reach 60 mph, with others, the timing is significantly on the higher side. The 2023 Lexus RC 350, with its 3.5L V6, clocks 60 in 5.8 seconds, while in the long run, is faster than the BMW by 0.1 seconds. Among all, the 2023 Mercedes Benz C300 takes the most time to clock the same, however, this is the car that comes in handy to launch when the traffic is green, due to the low-end torque. With a top speed of 128 mph, this Benz coupe takes the same time to complete the quarter-mile lap. On the other hand, while the 2024 Audi A5 takes the least time in the 60 mph bar, in the long run, finishes the race with way more time. In fact, the '24 A5 is also the fastest among all, yet falls short of others in the ¼-mile lap.

2024 BMW 4 Series Ride and Handling

Similar to the previous years, the 2024 BMW 4 Series maintains its composure, and temperament, when it comes to ride and handling. Mechanized with 18-inch alloy wheels, an active grille, air vents, and adaptive dampers, the BMW 4 Series 2024 edition delivers an exhilarating performance, with its refined suspension and precise steering. Coming with a well-balanced chassis incorporating twin-tube gas-pressure shock absorbers, double-pivot type front suspension with spring struts and anti-roll bar, and five-link rear suspension, coupled with the equipped mechanisms, the coupe rides in a smooth and controlled way, even on uneven roads. Although configured with rear-wheel drive, the coupe maintains stability on wet roads and bad weather and corners like a pro. Overall, in terms of dynamic driving, the 2024 BMW 4 Series never fails to amaze.

2024 BMW 4 Series Braking Performance

A car with an exhilarating performance but poor brakes is nothing but a living horror. Unless the car is well-equipped with a robust braking system, one can never experience the ultimate performance. The 2024 BMW 4 Series left no stone unturned to let us feel that bliss. Mechanized with 13.7-inch ventilated discs at the front axle, and 13.5-inch at the rear, coupled with several other braking aids such as ABS, electronic braking distribution system, brake assist, Dynamic Brake Control, and Cornering Brake Control, it takes 119 ft. to bring this 3,578 lbs BMW 4 Series coupe to a complete stoppage. To maintain composure and stability, dynamic stability control and dynamic traction control have been incorporated, along with brake fade compensation, brake drying, and brake standby.

Mounting the largest 4-wheels ventilated discs, the 2024 BMW 4 Series is although not the heaviest, stops the car at 119 ft, which can be considered a great stopping power. Contrary to this, the '23 Lexus RC 350, which is the heaviest, covers 123 ft to come to a complete stoppage, being mechanized with 13.2" ventilated discs at the front, and 12.3-inch discs at the rear. The 2024 Audi A5 covers the least distance, although being the 2nd heaviest, with considerably bigger brakes compared to Lexus and Mercedes Benz. The C 300 is the lightest and covers 112 ft to come to 0 mph. While at the front, quite a bigger pair of rotors have been installed, the rear ones are quite smaller compared to the counterparts, making it roll for more than adequate distance. Bigger and high-performance braking pads may solve the issue.

Fuel Economy
8.5/10

A performance car is born to deliver shivering acceleration and chilled performance, however in search of the thrill, we can't turn our faces from efficiency, especially in this inflated market, where the gas price increases every month. Fortunately, the '24 BMW 4 Series does a fair job, when it comes to fuel efficiency. Running for 25 miles around the town, and 34 miles on the highway, the 2024 BMW 4 Series is a phenomenal coupe that delivers an exhilarating performance without making a hole in the monthly budget. Equipped with a 15.6-gallon fuel tank, this BMW coupe can cruise for 530.4 miles at most, while with combined driving, around 436 miles of range can be expected. However, the whole efficiency game depends on lots of factors, and in the real-life scenario, it's a blue moon to achieve the EPA-registered mpg rating.

Although every coupe in the chart is powered by a 2L turbocharged Inline-4, except the Lexus RC 350, there's a huge difference in the achievable efficiency. Among all, the '24 BMW 4 Series is the most fuel-efficient while crunching the most miles. The '24 A5 comes second, with a mpg rating of 24/32/27, however, falls short of the 4 Series due to the smaller fuel tank. The 2023 Mercedes Benz C 300, although not as efficient as the other two, can cruise for more miles, being equipped with the most giant fuel tank of 17.4 gallons. In the quad, the '23 RC 350 is the least fuel-efficient, however, you can run for more miles, due to the bigger fuel tank. In fact, among all, it's the only coupe, coming standard with a V6 under the hood, and thus driving experience gets better with the Lexus.

Interior
9.9/10

Crafted with quality materials, the 2024 BMW 4 Series is quite a comfortable coupe, with seats for 4 people. Similar to other BMWs, the all-new 4 Series too has embarked on a sleek interior with a driver-focused cockpit, with every control at hand's reach. The seats are comfortable, well-cushioned, and provide overall good support to all passengers. For the front people, power-adjustable seats have been allocated. At the back, the given bench seat is comfortable but due to less space, is quite cramped, especially if the seat is fully occupied. Multi-zone climate control has been given, and for extra convenience, features like remote and proximity keyless entry have been installed. While the adjustable ambient lighting system sets up the mood, the 2-way power moonroof lets you enjoy the freedom.

While all can accommodate 4 passengers, there's quite a big difference in the space allocated to the passengers. While the '24 A5 provides the best shoulder area, with the Mercedes Benz C 300, you'd get the most enormous headroom, perfect for tall people. Conversely, the 2024 BMW 4 Series offers the best legroom in the second row, making the rear seat more comfortable for people than others. In terms of shoulder support too, it provides adequate support, however, regarding the headroom, this coupe seriously runs low on space. Among all, the 2024 4 Series is the most luggage-friendly, making a long trip more convenient, by offering 14 cubic feet of area, whereas others are limited to 10.9 cu. ft. at most.

Infotainment System of the 2024 BMW 4 Series

Without a range of modern features, getting to the destination gets quite boring, for both the passengers and the driver. Thus to keep you engaged, BMW has equipped the 2024 4 Series with a range of infotainment systems. The coupe is well-equipped and well-crafted with everything settled in the right place, however, in no way does it appears to be cluttered. For the vehicle information, a 12.3" instrument cluster has been mounted on the deck incorporating BMW curved display. To get to the destinations, and to control other features, a 14.9-inch touchscreen is also there. To enjoy the music, a premium sound system has been given, along with the BMW TeleServices. In a nutshell, the car is well-decked for the best experience.

  • BMW TeleServices
  • 10-speaker HiFi Sound System with 205-watt digital amplifier
  • 12.3" instrument cluster with BMW curved display
  • 14.9" central information display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • iDrive 8 operating system operated by voice, touchscreen or iDrive touchpad controller

Exterior
9.9/10

The 2024 BMW 4 Series appears quite sleek, sporty yet elegant whenever out on the road. Incorporating the huge kidney grille, coupled with the L-shaped headlights, active air breathers, and the 18" V-spoke bi-color orbit gray wheels. Sitting low to the ground, not only enhances the performance but also increases visual appeal. The elongated hood gracefully flows into the sloping rear, improvising the sleekness. Characterized with multiple performance elements, the 2024 BMW 4 Series enhances its sportiness with its dual exhaust system. Along with the performance metrics, several convenience features have also been added. The power-folding heated mirrors with integrated turn signals come in handy in cold weather, whereas it makes it very convenient to load luggage with the motion-activated liftgate. In fact, not only convenient, but the sculpted ORVMs also enhance the aerodynamics profile, to enhance performance and efficiency. In a nutshell, the all-new 4 Series not only exudes sportiness and elegance but also shows its dedication to performance.

The 2024 BMW 4 Series is the longest among all, thus provides the best wheelbase, however, yet, when it comes to overall comfort, the coupe falls short of others. In the front row, you will get more comfort with the other coupes, mostly due to the spacious shoulder area, and long legroom, which we particularly need. Coupled with that come the extra features that make the ride very comfortable in other coupes. The BMW 4 Series on the other hand provides a very basic seating considering it’s a premium performance coupe. However, on the 2nd row, BMW offers the best area, although cramped for adults. Among all, the 2023 Mercedes C 300 sits closest to the ground, enhancing performance.

Safety

Built robustly, the 2024 BMW 4 Series is quite a safe coupe which not only is known for its thrilling driving, but also for acting responsibly on the roads. To avoid mishaps, the all-new 4 Series is mechanized with quite larger brakes at both front and rear axles, and coupled with several braking aids such as ABS, EBD, BA, Dynamic Brake Control, and Cornering Brake Control, the coupe covers 119 ft to come to a complete stop from a speed of 60 mph. A range of safety features have been incorporated into the coupe such as multiple airbags, blind spot monitor, lane keep assistance warning, rear parking sensors, etc to keep the passengers safe and sound in collisions. To maintain stability at high speeds, dynamic stability control, and traction control are also mechanized with the coupe. However, for a full-fledged safety system, you have to get the packages.

  • 7 airbags
  • ABS, EBD, BA, Dynamic Brake Control, and Cornering Brake Control
  • Blind spot monitor
  • Lane keep assist warning
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Dynamic stability and traction control

Competition

2024 BMW 4 Series Vs. 2023 Lexus RC 350 Coupe

Contending in the luxury coupe segment, both 4 Series and RC350 are some of the best machines available in the market featuring a range of performance elements, and convenient features. While the 4 Series takes an aggressive approach with its low-slung design, the RC 350 is more graceful in nature, combining sleekness with distinctive details. While both drive great, for the gearheads, the BMW 4 Series offers more dynamic driving, and a thrilling experience, which is somehow missing in the Lexus, while the latter is more comfortable on roads contrary to the same. Both come with a crafted interior, and spacious seating, however, on the rear row, BMW provides the best comfort, although it’s quite cramped for the adults. With Lexus, it’s unbearable. The Lexus RC 350 is more refined in nature and comes with a top-quality reliability rating, although that of the BMW is not that bad unless you don’t maintain it at all. Overall, both are great in respective terms, however, performance is the priority, get the BMW. otherwise, Lexus is there to cater to you.

2024 BMW 4 Series Vs. 2024 Audi A5

While both are great performance machines, under the $50,000 bracket, they cater to different customers. While the BMW 4 Series 2024 edition focuses more on driving dynamics and performance, the 2024 Audi A5 is more inclined to comfortable driving. Mechanized with the Quattro AWD, the A5 2024 provides a stable and comfortable ride on every type of road, whereas, the BMW 4 Series configured w/ rear-wheel drive, delivers exhilarating performance. For stability and traction, multiple mechanisms have been incorporated with the BMW that collectively improves handling and comfort. Both are crafted with quality materials and while the A5 provides the best comfort among all on the front row, in terms of the back seat, the 4 Series has the upper hand over any coupes out there. It’s just more spacious there, although big guys will definitely feel uncomfortable. Overall, both are great, however, while BMW is more focused on the driving, on both inside and in terms of overall mechanism, with the Audi A5 2024, it’s more about comfort.

2024 BMW 4 Series vs. 2023 Mercedes Benz C 300

Some would agree that the 2023 Mercedes C300 is one of the most elegant cars out there if the coupe segment is considered, however, we think, although coming with an aggressive approach, the 2024 BMW 4 Series is more graceful when it comes to appearance. Yes, it takes an aggressive stance, and on most BMW cars, the big kidney grille doesn’t fit well, somehow, on the 4 Series, it worked, making the car one of the most demanding machines in the segment. In terms of performance, none of the two leaves any stone unturned, however, with the C300, you would get better handling due to the low ground clearance, and a tuned chassis, for performance, BMW is there to cater to you. Not only it runs faster but also drives quite seamlessly. Coming inside, both offer an opulent, driver-focused cabin, however, with the BMW, you would get a better rear seat, while for the front, the Benz is there. The seats that BMW offers are good but would be best if they would be a little wider. Everything else is fine.

Final Verdict

Nothing on the earth is perfect, and so is the BMW 4 Series 2024 edition. The coupe comes with a lot of flaws. The rear seat is not that comfortable for adults, however, at the same time, it’s the segment-best. Others offer a more cramped seat. There is no shortage of performance, in fact, the all-new 4 Series offer the best performance among the most. Multiple elements have been incorporated into the chassis, to enhance the performance. Powered by a twin-turbocharged Inline-4, even the 430i delivers an exhilarating acceleration, and refined and accurate handling that lets you corner like a pro. Configured with RWD for the base models, this BMW coupe is quite stable even on wet roads and takes it to its destination safely. Multiple safety features are there to keep you safe and sound, however, most are available optional. The interior is comfortable, and the infotainment system features a large touchscreen display with BMW's latest connectivity features and intuitive controls. In a nutshell, the coupe is great to drive and fulfills its purpose effectively, however, if the cons are stopping you from buying one, look somewhere else.
