Overview

The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid retains all the benefits of the standard CR-V, while offering enhanced fuel economy (combined) of 38 mpg. The enhanced gas mileage is courtesy of a 2.0-liter inline-four engine and dual electric motor hybrid powertrain. The power output stands at 212 horsepower and all wheel drive (AWD) is offered as standard. The CR-V Hybrid is available in EX Hybrid, EX-L Hybrid and Touring Hybrid trims. With a starting price of $32,010, Honda's midsize hybrid crossover offers practicality, reliability, decent interior space and attractive exterior styling. The maximum towing capacity for the hybrid trims is expected to be around 1,500 pounds. .

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid For Sale

The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid can be termed as surprisingly affordable and efficient for its size. The hybrid models are for those looking for better gas mileage by spending a little more money than the standard models. The interior design, exterior styling and cargo space remains the same, while the powertrain is totally different. The CR-V Hybrid is a regular hybrid and not a plug-in hybrid. Honda offers attractive finance options at 4.9% APR with $627 monthly payment for a term of 60 months. Similarly, it can also be leased for a term of 36 months with $282 monthly payment and $5,655 due at signing. The annual mileage is limited to 10,000 miles.

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid Buying Advice

The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid has not changed as compared to the 2021 model year. However, Honda has revealed the 2023 CR-V based on a new sixth-generation platform. It is wider, longer and dynamically more sound as stated by Honda. However, the hybrid powertrain delivers slightly less output of 204 hp. So, if you are willing to buy a Honda CR-V, we would recommend waiting for the latest model. If you are looking to buy a used CR-V then the 2021 or 2022 CR-V models make sense, as they have the least recalls and complaints in their name. The sale price of the used models will depend on the condition and odometer mileage of the vehicle.

The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid is powered by a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. The combined output stands at 212 horsepower and AWD drivetrain is offered as standard. Honda’s midsize hybrid crossover is available in EX, EX-L and Touring trims, with a starting price of $32,010 and going up to $37,800 for the top-tier trim. The Honda CR-V competes with the likes of Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Ford Escape Hybrid

Buying Advice

Looking at the specs and features of every hybrid trim, we would narrow down on the EX-L Hybrid trim for its cost and list of creature comforts. The EX-L Hybrid offers heated front seats, leather-trimmed upholstery, power tailgate with programmable height, leather trimmed shift knob, auto dimming rear view mirror, HomeLink Remote System and ambient lighting as standard. The EX-L Hybrid trim is $2,590 more expensive than the EX Hybrid trim but offers a good value for the asking price.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid checks the right boxes for buyers looking out for a midsize crossover. Just like the standard CR-V, the Hybrid trim delivers decent interior space, practicality, performance and fuel economy. However, as of now J.D. Power has not rated the Hybrid model for Consumer Rating. But the non-hybrid model has scored 83 out of 100 which can be termed as “Great'' and we expect a similar score for the hybrid version as well. The Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance features is standard across every trim, enhancing safety and security. Being a regular hybrid, the CR-V Hybrid is not entitled for a tax credit.

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid Review

The 2022 CR-V Hybrid has undergone two recalls till date and a single complaint is registered which is quite commendable as compared to previous model years. The five year “Cost-to-Own” is comparatively less as compared to the non-hybrid trim. The depreciation is estimated to be $8,280. The fuel, maintenance and repair charges are calculated to be $8,220, $5,320 and $700 respectively. The above-mentioned costs are for the EX Hybrid trim and are bound to increase as you climb the trim ladder. However, the cost of ownership for five years is pretty much acceptable in the segment.

Buying Advice
8.0/10

Looking at the specs and features of every hybrid trim, we would narrow down on the EX-L Hybrid trim for its cost and list of creature comforts. The EX-L Hybrid offers heated front seats, leather-trimmed upholstery, power tailgate with programmable height, leather trimmed shift knob, auto dimming rear view mirror, HomeLink Remote System and ambient lighting as standard. The EX-L Hybrid trim is $2,590 more expensive than the EX Hybrid trim but offers a good value for the asking price.

Features
8.0/10

The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid is available in EX, EX-L and Touring trims, meaning the scarcely loaded trims are left out for the standard model. The starting msrp of the three trims are $32,010, $34,600 and $37,800 respectively. The hybrid trim offers all the features of the standard CR-V, adding enhanced gas mileage, courtesy of hybrid powertrain. Even the performance of the hybrid version is slightly better with a 2.0-liter inline-four engine and two electric motors.

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid Features

The base EX Hybrid trim offers 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlights, LED fog lights, heated front seats, one touch power moonroof, 8-speaker with 180-watt output audio system, power driver's seat with two position memory, dual-zone climate control system, 7-inch touchscreen display with support for Android Auto and Apple Carplay and Honda Sensing as standard. Fuel Economy
6.7/10

The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid excels with gas mileage but is not the segment leader, delivering 40 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highways and 38 mpg in combined driving conditions. The fuel economy is much better than the standard CR-V trim, offering just 28/34/30 mpg in city/highway/combined driving conditions. With a fuel tank capacity of 14.0 gallons, the CR-V Hybrid can deliver a range of 560 miles in the city, 490 miles on the highway and 532 miles in combined driving conditions.

The Honda CR-V Hybrid offers very good fuel economy but not the best for sure. The Ford Escape Hybrid offers the best gas mileage and driving range in every driving condition. It is followed by the RAV4 Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid and Tucson Hybrid. The Tucson Hybrid is equipped with the smallest fuel tank and offers least fuel efficiency, leading to lowest driving range in every driving condition. The CR-V Hybrid will have to stop multiple times at gas pumps on longer journeys as compared to the RAV4 Hybrid and Escape Hybrid.

Interior
6.7/10

The interior of the 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid retains a premium and new-fangled look. The entire layout is very similar to the standard CR-V interior design, offering ergonomic setup with both practical and quirky features to the buyers. As for the material, it looks and feels premium, and with a clutter-free dashboard design, we expect the SUV’s holistic interior to maintain its relevance with the new model as well. The outward visibility is good and the driver gets a commanding position while driving.

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid Interior

For passengers, power-adjustable front bucket seats are available which are roomy and comfortable. For rear occupants, a 60/40 split-folding bench seat is available which is again wide and comfy. The interior colors are limited to Black and Gray with cloth or leather upholstery. The EX Hybrid gets cloth seats, while the EX-L and Touring Hybrid trims get leather upholstery. A 12-way power-adjustable seat with 4-way power lumbar support with two position memory are standard and the 4-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat is standard on the EX-L and Touring Hybrid trims.

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid Seating

For enhanced convenience, some features like heated front seats, push button start, dual-zone climate control system, rear seat heater ducts, and sliding sunvisors are standard across all the trims. Some other features like leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, leather-wrapped shift knob, automatic dimming rear view mirror, ambient lighting, and leather -trimmed seats are standard across the EX-L Hybrid and Touring Hybrid trims. The cargo space is limited to 33.2 cubic feet with all seats up and can be expanded to 68.7 cubic feet by folding the rear seatback

The Honda CR-V’s spacious cabin is adequate for most adult occupants. However, when compared, its rivals offer even more room for front-row occupants. As for the rear row occupants, only Hyundai Tucson Hybrid offers better legroom. The standard cargo capacity of CR-V is lesser than what Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Ford Escape Hybrid offers. But one can easily compensate for that by folding down the rear row bench seat and expanding the cargo space to 68.7 cubic feet.

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid Infotainment System

The infotainment system of the CR-V Hybrid is quite good but not the best in the segment. A 7.0-inch touchscreen display is standard across all the hybrid trims. Some other features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, SiriusXM, HD Radio, 180-watt and 8-speaker audio system, and Bluetooth connectivity. The top-tier Touring trim adds satellite-linked navigation system, 330-watt and 9-speaker premium audio system, and wireless phone charger.

Some of the key interior and infotainment features of the 2022 CR-V Hybrid are:

  • Leather upholstery
  • Power adjustable front bucket seats
  • Keyless entry and ignition
  • Moonroof
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Apple CarPlay support
  • Android Auto support
  • SiriusXM
  • Navigation system
  • Wireless charging pad

Exterior
6.7/10

The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid remains unchanged with respect to its exterior styling. While the design feels premium and has an upmarket aura to it, it has started to show its age and can use a refresh. However, the good news is that the sixth-generation 2023 CR-V has been revealed and is completely redesigned from the ground up. The new CR-V is wider, longer and features wider front and rear tracks for enhanced handling. The 2022 CR-V Hybrid wears distinct hybrid badges but the rest of the design remains similar to the non-hybrid CR-V.

The front inverted trapezoidal headlamps and a rather compact front grille looks well-designed. The sleek LED fog lamps blend well with the design of the front bumper. The side profile looks elegant and rugged at the same time, courtesy of black cladding on the doors. The roof rails accentuate the SUV styling. The rear tail lamps are angular and look modern, while features like rear privacy glass, body-colored roofline spoiler with integrated brake light and one-touch power moonroof is standard. Some exterior colors like Blue Metallic, Crystal Black, Silver Metallic, Steel Metallic, White Pearl, Red Metallic, and Gray Pearl.

It falls in a similar ballpark as its rivals when curb weight is concerned. It gets the shortest wheelbase of 104.7 inches, while the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid gets the longest of 108.5 inches. Moreover, it is one of the longest cars in the segment but is shorter in height and width, when compared with the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Ford Escape Hybrid.

Some of the key exterior features of the 2022 CR-V Hybrid are:

  • Newly designed upright grille
  • Updated headlights and taillights
  • Power liftgate
  • Roof rack rails

Safety
9.6/10

When it comes to safety, the 2022 Honda CR-V has received a five-star safety rating from thr NHTSA. Even the IIHS rewarded it with the ‘Top Safety Pick’ award. Aside from standard features such as stability and traction controls, and multiple dual-stage airbags throughout the cabin, advanced features such as blind-spot monitoring system, forward collision mitigation system, lane departure warning system, automatic emergency braking system, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control are available. The above-mentioned advanced driver-assistance features are a part of Honda Sensing and they are standard across all the CR-V trims. A backup camera including front and rear parking sensors is also available.

  • Blind-spot monitoring system
  • Lane departure warning system
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid vs 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are old rivals and this time the RAV4 Hybrid comes out faster on the road and offers better fuel economy with the bigger fuel tank which results in a better driving range. On top of that, it offers more room for occupants and cargo.

2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

The CR-V Hybrid on the other hand offers better braking power, sleeker design, and an impressive cabin. The CR-V Hybrid also offers better second row legroom and ground clearance as compared to the RAV4 Hybrid.

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid vs 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid

When stacked against the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, the CR-V hybrid manages to offer better braking performance, much better fuel economy and driving range, sporty visuals, and a controlled driving experience.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid

The Tucson Hybrid on the other hand manages to outrun CR-V easily on the road and offers a lot more room for both cargo and occupants. The second row legroom is much better on the Tucson Hybrid.

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid vs 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid

When put against the Ford Escape Hybrid, the CR-V turns out to be the faster one on the road. However, the Ford Escape Hybrid offers better fuel economy and driving range, courtesy of larger fuel tank capacity.

2022 Ford Escape Hybrid

It also offers better braking power and a lighter body which results in better control over the vehicle. The CR-V Hybrid offers better ground clearance and cargo capacity, while offering AWD configuration as standard.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

The Honda CR-V has proved its worth in the market and is one of the best-selling Honda vehicles out there. The only problem one can find in it is the underwhelming performance and somewhat less cargo space. Despite this, it is still one of the best vehicles in its segment and ticks many right boxes with decent fuel economy, refined ride quality, good safety ratings and decent reliability. So if you are not conderned with outright perfomance then yes we think you should consider getting the new Honda CR-V Hybrid.
