This dual electric motor powertrain is based on 800-Volt architecture.
Polestar 5 To Debut With New Powertrain at Goodwood Festival Of Speed

The Polestar 5 which the company claims to be an electric 4-door GT receives a new powertrain. This car is said to be based on the 800-Volt architecture and the company aims to produce 884 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque from this dual electric motor. Polestar will be showcasing the prototype of Polestar 5 at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed along with the high-performance limited-edition Polestar 2 BST Edition 270.

“Goodwood is our favorite place to show our cars in an enthusiast environment,” comments Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath. “This year, we are thrilled to showcase Polestar 5 going up the hill! Our UK R&D team is doing an amazing job developing the car, and we are proud to be able to highlight their hard work at this early stage.”

Polestar 5 is an evolved version of the Polestar Precept concept which the company first showcased in February 2020. The Polestar 5 prototype will be stationed in the First Glance Paddock and is said to complete several drives up the hill during the event. This electric GT will be on the main Polestar stand. The Polestar team based in the UK has said that they will be using bonded aluminum chassis which the company says will be a key to achieving a driving experience as desirable as the design.

Jörg Brandscheid, Polestar’s CTO and Head of R&D, says: “The new powertrain we are working on will set a new brand benchmark in our high-performing cars. Combining strong electric motor engineering ability with advances in light-weight platform technology is leading to truly stunning driver’s cars.”

Polestar earlier this year teased us about the features and gave a word about the debut of this car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This car was said to be manufactured in the new carbon-neutral facility in China. Polestar enjoys specific technological and engineering synergies with its sister brand Volvo Cars and benefits from significant economies of scale as a result.

Polestar has produced two electric performance cars. The Polestar 1 was built between 2019 and 2021 as a low-volume electric performance hybrid GT with a carbon fiber body, 619 hp, 738 lb-ft of torque, and an EPA-estimated electric-only range of 52 miles. The Polestar 2 electric performance fastback is the company’s first fully electric, high-volume car with dual- and single-motor powertrains with as much as 408 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque.

From 2022, Polestar plans to launch one new electric vehicle per year, starting with Polestar 3 in October 2022 followed by Polestar 4. The Polestar 5 is expected to be launched in the year 2024. Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, comments: “Polestar 5 is a company-defining project. Its progressive design and advanced engineering set the tone for Polestar’s future. We have great talent on board enabling us to create truly iconic EVs.” Polestar aims to produce a truly carbon-neutral car called Polestar O2 by 2030. The major rivals for Polestar 5 are Porsche Taycan, Lucid Air, Tesla Model S, and Mercedes-Benz EQS.
