Overview

With the age of electric and hybrid cars coming at a fast rate, powerful and high-capacity engines, especially with 12-cylinders, are rare. However, the 2022 BMW M760i is the gem that equips a monstrous 6.6 liters twin-turbo V12 engine. Coming to the other aspect, whether it be interior or exterior, the luxury that M760i offers, it is safe to call it a baby Rolls Royce which is half the price of the Rolls Royce Ghost

Buying Advice

Comparative Analysis against Competition

There are other trims available on the 7 series other than M760i, but it is the top-tier trim on the lineup. There is no shortage of safety features in the M760i. It has serious beef with the Porsche Panamera Turbo S, and it is also up against titans like Audi S8 and Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The powerful engine often returns low fuel economy. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the M760i's V12 engine returns fuel economy of 13 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and 16 mpg combined. With a fuel tank capacity of 20.6 gallons, you get a range of 268 miles in the city, 412 miles on the highway, and 329 miles combined, which is not the best in the segment.

As per Porsche’s official website, the EPA fuel economy figure is not available, but it has the biggest fuel tank in the competition. Audi proves itself to be the most fuel-efficient sedan with city/highway/combined fuel economy of 13/22/16 mpg. Lastly, Maserati shares the same fuel economy figures as BMW but has a slightly bigger fuel tank that results in the higher range.

Interior
9.0/10

The luxury and comfort inside the BMW M760i are comparable to the Rolls Royce, which has a much higher price tag. The whole cabin is filled with premium quality material which compliments the well-designed and organized interior. Inside the cabin, you have perforated Nappa leather upholstery as standard, but you can get Merino leather upholstery by paying $4,000. There are multiple interior and trim options that just raise the level of elegance and aesthetic to the highest level. You have a Black panel center console with brushed aluminum, Fineline Black Wood Trim, and touch-sensitive control for convenience. The door panel armrest is also covered in leather. The top section of the door panel has black leather with contrast stitching, while the dash is also covered in leather. All seats are very comfortable, but the second-row seat behind the front passenger seat has the power footrest which comes out of the back of the front seat.

The front row has 14-way power-adjustable seats with power lumbar support, memory, and a power headrest. Front and rear heated, ventilated power reclining seats are standard, but front seats come with the standard massaging function, while the rear massaging seats are optional under the Luxury Rear Seating Package. The heated armrest and leather-wrapped steering wheel are also standard. That said, the flagship model of the 7 Series, M760i has every feature offered on the lineup. Some of these features include keyless entry, climate comfort laminated glass, soft-close automatic door operation, power rear sunshade & rear side window shades, four-zone automatic climate control, one-touch power windows, power tilt, and telescopic steering column, interior courtesy lights, extended ambient lighting, four 12-volt power outlets, and auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

All sedans in the segment offer a passenger capacity of five except the Panamera. Interior space dimensions of the Porsche and Maserati have not been given. However, Panamera will have the least interior space in the segment because of the shorter wheelbase and length. That said, if we compare the BMW and Audi, both of them have the nearly same interior space, but BMW has the lead by a very low margin. Meanwhile, the smallest cargo capacity is offered on the Audi. Lastly, Maserati has the biggest trunk of all. Key highlights of the interior features are:

  • Nappa leather upholstery
  • Heated, ventilated, massaging front seats
  • Heated, ventilated rear seats with optional massage function
  • Heated leather armrest and steering wheel
  • Four-zone automatic climate control
  • Auto-dimming driver-side outside mirror
  • LED Light Carpet
  • Extended Ambient Lighting
  • Universal garage-door opener
  • Rain-sensing windscreen wipers
  • Push-button and remote start
  • Alcantara headliner

How intuitive is the car’s infotainment unit?

It comprises a 10.25-inch touchscreen display that is used to control many functions in the car and has gesture control which can be annoying sometimes.

The 16 speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound Audio System with an amplifier is standard in the M760i that gives you ear orgasm with its high quality. Some other standard features include SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, AM/FM in-dash stereo with Radio Data System, Bluetooth, two USB ports, 8 freely programmable bookmarks, and a 7-inch command tablet under Luxury Rear Seating Package. Exterior
9.0/10

The 2022 M760i is a beast that has a length of over 205 inches. No matter from which direction you look, the M760i hints at the brilliance of design language and luxury. You have the Cerium Grey accents all over the exterior which makes it look like a true executive sedan. At the front, you have a bold kidney-shaped grille which is generally closed but can open when excess air is required. You also get functional air vents plus curtains and Icon Adaptive LED Headlights at the front. Looking from the side, you have side air intakes and an L-shaped cerium grey strip that runs across the profile.

On the backside, you get a remote power hands-free liftgate, LED lights, rear spoiler, and a cerium grey trim connecting both tail lights. You have a power-sliding panoramic glass roof to enjoy the driving experience at its best. The 2022 BMW M760i has many exterior metallic paint options from the Donington grey metallic to mineral white metallic. You can also get the Tanzanite Blue II Metallic and frozen bluestone metallic for $1,950 and $5,000, respectively. The sedan runs on the standard 20-inch M Double-spoke wheels, but you can get 20" M star-spoke orbit grey wheels.

Audi is the longest sedan, whereas BMW and Maserati almost share the same length. The Porsche is the smallest sedan in terms of exterior dimensions except for the width which results in better stability on roads, agility, and a smaller turning radius. If we compare the BMW and rivals excluding the Porsche, their height is in a similar ballpark. That said, Audi is the heaviest in the bunch. Meanwhile, BMW with its highest wheelbase in the segment will cause difficulty in parking and taking turns. Key highlights of the exterior features are:

  • 20-inch M Double-spoke wheels
  • Power-sliding panoramic glass roof
  • Cerium grey exterior accent
  • Power heated outside mirrors
  • Icon Adaptive LED Headlights
  • Programmable LED Daytime Running Lights
  • Infrared windshield
  • Rear spoiler
  • Aerodynamic kit
  • Pathway lighting feature

Safety
9.0/10

The M760i xDrive sedan has not been tested by the IIHS or NHTSA. However, the M760i is the flagship model of the BMW in the 7 Series. Therefore, it is safe to say that structural chassis components such as carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, high rigidity, unibody structure, and an array of standard safety features will result in a high level of safety.

The 2022 M760i also provides a Driving Assistance Professional Package which adds features such as active driving assistant pro, lane-keep assist, side collision avoidance, Evasion assistant and cross-traffic alert front, extended traffic jam assistant, and steering and traffic jam assistant. The key highlights of the safety features are:

  • Dynamic Cruise Control
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Lane departure warning
  • Forward collision warning
  • Active Park Distance Control
  • Surround-view camera with 3D view
  • Parking Assistant Plus

Competition
9.0/10

2022 BMW M760i Vs 2021 Audi S8

The competition between the M760i and S8 is close. On one hand, the Audi S8 comes as more fuel-efficient on the highway and has better mileage due to the bigger fuel tank, while the M760i counters that with bigger cargo space, less curb weight, and higher power figures. However, with a $26,900 price difference, the 2022 S8 seems an attractive option.

2022 BMW M760i Vs 2021 Porsche Panamera Turbo S

The 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo S has the advantage over the M760i as far as performance is concerned.

However, when it comes to the passenger capacity, interior space, and exterior dimensions, the M760i is ahead. That said, the 2022 M760i has a price tag that is $19,900 less than the Turbo S, which pulls odds in its favor.

2022 BMW M760i Vs 2021 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo

The 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo is 970 lbs lighter than the M760i, but when it comes to acceleration, the M760i leaves it behind.

The Quattroporte Trofeo is the sedan in the competition which has the smallest engine which results in low power figures. Even though Maserati has better interior dimensions and fuel range, that fails to compensate for the lack of performance when compared with the M760i.

Final Verdict

If you want a sedan that excels in every way, whether it is a high level of luxury or snazzy exterior design language or be it performance or interior space, the 2022 BMW M760i is a sport sedan that satiates your every need. However, a higher price tag might throw you off. Therefore, if you are a dedicated Bimmer, you can go with the 2022 BMW M760i or select S8, which is a more feasible option in terms of price and other factors.
