2022 Mclaren 720s for sale

The 2022 McLaren 720S comes as a carry-over model of the 2021 McLaren 720S. This is in line with the paradigm shift of the company towards focusing on hybrid and electric-powered cars in the near future. The 2022 McLaren 720S will be powered by the same 710 hp, twin-turbocharged V8 motor that is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With this powertrain in place, the 2022 McLaren 720S will be capable of a 0-60 MPH timing in 2.8 seconds and cover a quarter-mile in under eleven seconds.

Even though there are no changes expected on the 2022 McLaren 720S, it will see a price bump of a couple of grand and is estimated to carry a base MSRP of $307,000. Just like the 2021 720S, the 2022 720S will come in two body styles namely Coupe and Spider. That said, the 2022 McLaren 720S goes up against the likes of Ferrari 812 Superfast, Lamborghini Aventador S, and Aston Martin DBS Superleggera.

Buying Advice

The McLaren 720S is the quickest way to get behind the wheel of a car that feels like it's straight out of Formula 1. With the closely meshed gears and impressive engine, it is quite the experience to drive one around a track. Nevertheless, since McLaren doesn't offer any trim choice except for the body styles so we don't have anything to suggest here. As going for a particular body style is a personal preference.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 McLaren 720S is coming for another round before the likes of hybrid and electric sports cars take over. The McLaren 720S is a fire-breathing supercar sport made up of a carbon fiber monocoque chassis that houses a big twin-turbo V8 spitting out 710 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque. The supercar also boasts a transmission borrowed from their F1 car and adapted to road conditions. Starting slightly above three hundred thousand grands the 720S is the least expensive way of experiencing a track-ready sports car from the makers of F1 cars. But is it worth the dough when pitted against the likes of Lamborghini, Ferrari, and another British marque Aston Martin? Let's find that out in this review below.

Features
7.0/10

The 2022 McLaren 720S is expected to be available in only one trim and two body styles namely coupe and spider. The 2022 McLaren 720S Spider has been reviewed by us separately. As for the 2022 720S, it can be described as a viable daily driving supercar for its Proactive chassis control and adaptive suspension setup that ensures performance on the track and comfort on the roads. Powered by a 710 hp, twin-turbo V8 the McLaren 720S fall under the Supersports car category. The standard equipment level is sparse as is the case with other rival cars in the segment.  Although McLaren does offer a couple of optional features in the form of a 12-speaker audio system, park assist, sport exhaust, full carbon fiber body, electrochromic roof, and a few more.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

Since no changes to the powertrain of the 2022 McLaren 720S is expected, the fuel economy figures of the 2021 720S is what we expect to see from the new 720S. The 2021 McLaren 720S returned 15 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway. These figures are respectable considering what rivals offer. That said, the McLaren 720S does get the smallest 19-gallon fuel tank but its good gas mileage ensures it has sufficient range between tank fills.

In this comparison, the McLaren 720S as stated above is the most fuel-efficient followed by the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. While the naturally aspirated V12 powered Aventador and 812 Superfast are gas guzzlers with the Aventador returning single-digit gas mileage in the city.

Interior
9.0/10

The 2022 McLaren 720S being a carry-over model we expect no changes to the interior. As seen on the 2021 McLaren 720S the cabin has a very driver-centric layout. It is designed with luxury in mind, but with weight reduction at the forefront, leading to a minimalist design with plenty of plushness in its seats. The seats aren’t comfort-over-positioning, but they allow for a good balance between spirited and relaxed driving. The uncomplicated design of the dashboard ensures that the majority of your focus goes into the road ahead, while the functions are very easy to use but not necessarily so when in motion. The use of machined aluminum and exquisite leather upholstery makes the cabin of the 720S a nice place to be.

2022 McLaren 720s Coupe front seats

At first glance, the McLaren 720S simply disappoints with its infotainment specs. A 7” touchscreen and 4-speaker system aren’t exactly the best-sounding setups and don’t we know it. However, closer inspection lets you know that the system is pretty handy, and the 4-speaker system puts out great audio at various frequency ranges while keeping tabs on the total weight of the car. The 7” high-resolution central infotainment screen displays all the information you’d like when doing a lap run. While there are basic connectivity features like Bluetooth but there is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

The interior dimensions of all four vehicles on the list are unknown, but the lack of rear seats in three of them suggests a highly customizable seating position due to only one row of seating being present. As for cargo space, the McLaren 720S offers the best 12.7 cubic feet of cargo space followed by the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera with 9 cubic feet of cargo space.

Exterior
8.0/10

The exterior design of the McLaren 720S although takes priority of function over form yet the designers at McLaren have done a great job in making the 720S look good too. It feature a head-turning design, but also a sense of being incognito with its plain colors and mature fascia.

Apart from being stylish, the curves on the McLaren 720S are built to achieve aerodynamic precision. The rest of the car design follows the usual McLaren design philosphooy especially the dihedral doors that simply ooze style.

The low-slung silhouette of the supercar is maintained by the McLaren 720S and all its rivals. None of the four stand much taller than 50 inches and have ground clearances that might as well not be there. The Aventador is the longest of the lot, and arguably the most flashy car being compared. It is also the widest and shortest, which explains the hassle of driving one through a busy street. The 3.5” of ground clearance in the Aston Martin is the least among all and makes us doubt if anyone would make it over a pothole with that kind of clearance.

Safety
6.0/10

There isn’t much information regarding the crash test results or safety inspections pertaining to the earlier McLaren 720S models. And we don't expect to see any results of the new 720S in near future too as Supersports cars are never crash-tested by federal agencies. Although McLaren does kit out the 720S with a list of safety features, which not only mitigate collisions but electronically keep the car in check in the event of lost traction or otherwise.

Safety Features:

  • Brake assist
  • Dual-stage driver and passenger airbags
  • Door and knee airbags for both occupants
  • Variable Drift Control
  • Proactive chassis control II
  • Tire-pressure monitoring system
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Rearview camera
  • Auto-leveling headlights
  • Hill-start assist

Competition
7.0/10

2022 McLaren 720S vs 2021 Lamborghini Aventador S

The Lamborghini Aventador is considered one of the most impractical supercars to date. Its design boats little engineering when it comes to the human aspect, as ingress and egress is almost as tough as figuring out its erratic handling The snappy quick AWD system does most of its cornering for you, and hence becomes a little unpredictable at times, which is not a great thing to experience when driving a supercar.

In comparison to the 720S, the Aventador is a lot more erratic. Where McLaren offers customers a chance to play around and drift, the Aventador takes away that option entirely with its AWD system. With regards to extracting serious performance, despite the Lamborghini and its immense capabilities, it would be much easier to pull everything you can out of a McLaren 720S compared to the hooligan Aventador.

2022 McLaren 720S vs 2021 Ferrari 812 Superfast

The Ferrari 812 Superfast was a confusing offering from the stables of Ferrari. Considering the characteristics of Ferrari, and their affinity for achieving high speeds, it was almost shocking to see a hatchback come off their assembly line. Any doubts were quickly waived by the news of its beastly engine, one of great power and sound. Belting out 789 horsepower, it is one of the most powerful naturally aspirated engines built.

The McLaren 720S is supposedly a daily driveable option from the British auto-marque, but we don’t believe the supercar can compete with the practical design of the 812 Superfast. Moreover, we don’t see much reason for picking the 720S over the groundbreaking Ferrari, as the difference in price isn’t all that much either.

2022 McLaren 720S vs 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera

The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is priced perfectly, offering better specs on paper at a cost that isn’t that much higher than that of the McLaren 720S. Nevertheless, the ingenuity in the design of the 720S manages to knock the DBS off its pedestal, and further inspection shows you just how much more capable the McLaren 720S is when it comes to a race track.

That being said, in terms of being a daily driver, Aston Martin offers more luxury and a higher brand value compared to McLaren.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

The world of supercars is affected by the environment around them. When we say that, we mean you wouldn’t want to pull up to track day with four of your friends driving the same cars. If no one in your group has bought the 720S yet, we recommend you snap it up and make it a part of your character, as it is a cost-effective supercar that is not only easy to live with but can stand its ground against competitors of higher prices and seemingly higher capabilities.
